India needs entrepreneurs. Today, while India offers tremendous opportunity, the entrepreneurial ecosystem still has a long way to go. The answer lies in creating a winning ecosystem! From February 24 to March 3, 2007, people across India will celebrate Entrepreneurship Week India - a week to increase people’s awareness and appreciation about entrepreneurship, bring them into the supportive ecosystem and celebrate the spirit of We Can. We Will. Held for the first time, Entrepreneurship Week will celebrate today’s opportunities, and work to improve the ecosystem for entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial people.
Entrepreneurship Week is part of a global effort, catalyzed in the US by the Kauffman Foundation, the New York Times and Inc. Magazine. Over a 100 NEN member academic institutes across India will host entrepreneurship related events and activities on their campuses showcasing India’s entrepreneurial talent and spirit. Thousands of students will be able to participate and compete in international and nationwide contests specifically focused on entrepreneurship and developing entrepreneurial skills. Additionally, NEN is organizing two awareness campaigns: 1) The Pledge – where people can declare their support for an entrepreneurial India through a simple signature; and 2) The One-Liner Contest – where people can share what 'entrepreneurship' means to them in a single line. The idea is to get people talking and thinking about trepreneurship.
The NEN initiated Entrepreneurship Week India is supported by a number of corporate and organizational Partners including Himalaya, HSBC, IVCA, Mahindra & Mahindra, Microland, PVR, Symphony Services, techTribe, TiE and Yahoo! India, with each partner reaching out to create awareness of the entire initiative within or outside their own networks. The underlying message of Entrepreneurship Week India is one that resonates with people from all walks of life. Entrepreneurship Week India’s campaigns and activities should create a leap in terms of overall understanding, appreciation and involvement in entrepreneurship, bringing over 250,000 people into a "Winning Ecosystem".
Entrepreneurship Week India has been initiated by NEN (National Entrepreneurship Network), a non-profit program of the Wadhwani Foundation, the private foundation of Romesh Wadhwani, Chairman of Symphony Group. NEN works with 150 academic institutes, across 12 regions of India, to launch the next generation of entrepreneurs with the ultimate aim of job creation.
