| The seven-day long Entrepreneurship Week (E Week) was celebrated by the National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN) in the portico of the NSHM campus. It began on February 2 and continued till February 8. Concentrating on entrepreneurship to accelerate India's economic growth, the final day events focussed on the entrepreneurial opportunities in this country.
The ceremony started with a panel discussion, comprising of eminent entrepreneurs, who shared their valuable experiences with the audience. The topic was 'Does a conducive entrepreneurial ecosystem exist for women entrepreneurs in West Bengal'. Sunita Singh, director, NEN Consulting, threw light on the topic, "Entrepreneurship is an exciting challenge where the entrepreneur should be able to see light at the end of the tunnel. The mental shackles of the society have to be broken down." She further highlighted that nowadays people are breaking the age-old norms by sacrificing lucrative jobs to start their own business.
Another entrepreneur Alakananda Rao enlightened the audience by focusing on how an entrepreneur should be willing to take an idea and translate it into implementation. According to Rao, entrepreneurship is not a skill, but an attitude, a mindset.
Panelist Rakhi Purnima Dasgupta, partner owner of Kewpies restaurant, said, "Very few women in India are entrepreneurs as the social system does not favour it." She also stressed on how passionate, sincere and committed an entrepreneur has to be.
"One should be ready to serve the nation," said Rakesh Shah, chairman, Engineering Export Promotion Council. He cited examples of Bill Gates, Mittal, Md Yunus and several others who started with an idea and created nice products. Finally he concluded saying, "Dream big! Mantra for success is determination. Make the best use of resources. True entrepreneurship is critical in harmonsing the future progress of mankind."
The show ended with a candle lighting session. With a candle in hand, everyone present took a pledge to an entrepreneurial India.
