INCUBATOR PROFILE
Introduction
Founded by the Government of India in 1961, IIM-A is one of the leading management institutes in the world. Besides education, the institute is actively involved in research, management development programs, consulting and publishing. In 2001, IIM-A set up the Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE).
The Indian Incubator for Innovation Based Enterprises (I3E)
I3E's objectives are to incubate innovation-based enterprises, as part of CIIE's overall focus on incubation and research in the role of technology & entrepreneurship in enhancing the competitiveness of the Indian economy.

I3E is supported directly by CIIE which is funded and supported by Government of Gujarat, the National Innovation Foundation and a host of organizations, professionals, academicians and networking partners within India and across the globe. IIMA became the founding member of NEN in 2003 to further enhance their entrepreneurship programs.

INCUBATION OFFERING
Focus
Commercialize hi-tech and high impact innovations from public, private and informal sectors
Help incubatee develop networks of people and institutions to get technology support, testing & prototyping facilities, legal support and access to funding
Incubation process
Each innovator shall have a small support group comprising two or three faculty members/experts to act as mentors.
Every two months, the innovator will present her/his progress to the mentors who will provide help on aspects of commercialization ranging from market analysis, development of a business plan to prototyping, manufacturing planning etc.
Each company will be provided with supporting infrastructure and access to resources to commercialize the innovation over a time-bound period (usually 20 months)
The innovator should have a prototype available for evaluation by a team of technical experts.
Commercialization activity - formation of an enterprise, business plan, market research, consultancy, legal, finance and other support
Graduation of the incubatee
Facilities and Infrastructure
Designated workplace with 24/7 broadband computer access
Access to technology specialists and research labs to develop or to improve the innovative technology including research, testing facilities, materials, prototyping, design, manufacturing etc.
Provision and access to the IIM Ahmedabad library, printing, photocopying, telephones, canteen
The centre also envisages running mobile incubator clinics in various parts of the country for certain periods to help innovators across the country.
Services
IPR consultants for help in registering patent, copyright and trademarks
Legal experts for firm incorporation, venture capitalist, market research firms, advertisement agencies and PR firms, finance and management forums, faculty mentoring, databases, help in preparing business plan for the incubatee product/technology
Incubatees of CIIE are eligible for Service Tax Exemption for three years upto a maximum Rs.50 lakhs turnover as per the recent notification of Ministry of Finance, Government of India. For more information, please visit http://www.nstedb.com/notification.doc
Funding sources
DST funded seed fund: CIIE invests upto Rs 25 lakh into outstanding start-ups which are incubated at IIMA's incubator
TePP: CIIE, with the support of Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, is implementing the Technopreneur Promotion Program to enable the innovation skills of individual innovators and provides upto Rs 10 lakh for prototype development
SEMIndia: SEMIndia has announced an equity based funding of Rs 5 lakh for outstanding start-ups incubated at CIIE
Venture Capital: CIIE works closely with VCs and banks and has been raising venture finance for its start-ups as and when required.
