March 3, 2007 | Bangalore
Entrepreneurship Week (E Week) India, an initiative of National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN), a non-profit-organization launching the next generation of entrepreneurs in India, today culminated at a grand closing ceremony in Bangalore. Celebrated from February 24 - March 3, 2007, spread across 25 cities and towns in India, E Week had more than 170 institutes and over 10,000 youth participating in an array of entrepreneurial activities, ranging from games, contests, street plays to awareness campaigns, aimed at improving the ecosystem for entrepreneurship.

Delivering the keynote address, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Chairman and Managing Director, Biocon said "With the closing of the first E Week India, I see a distinct momentum in institutes across the country. This is a beginning of bringing Indian students together and urging them to think about entrepreneurship. Creating a support structure that allows them to stay in the game is therefore important." Some of the other special guests included Prof. S. Sadagopan, IIIT-B; Ajay Kela, Symphony Services; Rohit Agarwal, techTribe; Pradeep Kar, Microland; Subroto Bagchi, MindTree Consulting and Vani Ganapathy, India's eminent dancer to name a few.

Laura Parkin, NEN Executive Director, said, "I am asked all the time whether students are really interested in entrepreneurship. Now, after seeing the incredible leadership and participation of students across India and from all disciplines, I think we can safely say that a revolution is taking place in the way India’s youth view their future. We are delighted that E Week has provided a springboard for entrepreneurship and we look forward to an even bigger E Week next year with broader participation from all sectors!"

NEN announced several awards to recognize the extraordinary effort and success of institutes as well as individuals.
E Week 2007 Champions Award was awarded to six institutes - Sir MVIT, Bangalore; Jyoti Nivas College (Autonomous), Bangalore; Mount Carmel College, Bangalore; JJ College of Engineering and Technology, Trichy; Institute of Technology and Management, Mumbai and St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata were declared for in mobilizing participation during E Week. In addition, 22 institutes made the E Week Honor Roll for their very impressive activities and participation levels.
Individual Awards for the One-liner contest in which people were invited to submit one line about what entrepreneurship means to them, were awarded to Tatambhotla Anand, ITM Mumbai for the best overall entry, Arnab Barik, SRM University, Chennai for the most inspirational one liner; and Gautam Hegde, Backend, Bangalore for the funniest entry.
National Award for an institute with highest number of entries was awarded to Sir MVIT College, Bangalore while the National Award for an institute with highest number of entries per student was awarded to Loyola Institute of Business Administration, Chennai.
NEN-techTribe Networking Challenge Award for the best poem went to ‘Team Favorite Food’ a team of five students - all from different colleges, who came together to participate in the nationwide online competition.
The outstation winners were flown in to Bangalore to receive their awards. Some of the exciting awards included lunch with Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Chairman and Managing Director, Biocon; dinner with Pradeep Kar, CEO, Microland and Subroto Bagchi’s personally autographed book ‘The High Performance Entrepreneur’.

Accepting the award, Prof. R.A. Nagabhusan, Dean, Sir MVIT College, Bangalore said “Entrepreneurship Week India has been an experience beyond our imagination. It has taught us a spectrum of things, one of them being - that what really counts is not just about you making it big, but how many people you take along with you. Being nominated for this award means more to us than words can express. This is only the spark to the fire that has been set ablaze inside each of us.”

In addition to the student activities, E Week India also saw corporate and association partners actively support E Week awareness campaigns and efforts. Some remarkable examples: HSBC provided speakers to E Week student events and ran the awareness campaign internally. TiE Delhi launched E Week with the "Legends and Leaders" lecture series with a special session with NASSCOM President Kiran Karnik on the importance of entrepreneurial learning among students and its influence on career choices. Mahindra & Mahindra launched a fun and innovative contest to encourage entrepreneurial thinking among employees. Close to 20,000 Pledge stickers were distributed through Himalya Healthcare retail stores across India.

E Week India 2007 was supported by several corporate and association partners including HSBC, Symphony Services, Himalaya, Mahindra & Mahindra, techTribe, Microland, PVR, Yahoo! India, Business India, TiE and IVCA (Indian Venture Capital Association).
